"This is about humanity because football is more than just kicking a ball.
It is more than a game." J. Blatter
With the unveiling of the 2014 Brazil World Cup logo today in Johannesburg, a new major event branding experiment is born. Waka Waka has 72 hours left and the South Africa Brand will no longer be the focus of attention. Now we will begin singing and dancing Samba. The latin american region will host the next soccer world cup tournament and will be a great opportunity for graphic design to develop with the new major event.
The logo represents the human side of soccer with the three united hands that form the world cup trophy figure with Brazil's colors: green, yellow, and blue. With it's organic form, the logo evokes hospitality, warmth, and success. As always, there will be promoters and "slap in the face" detractors.
The launch event included speeches from Joseph Blatter, Ricardo Teixeira, president of the Brazil 2014 organising committee and Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. Brazil's outgoing president said he would do everything in his power to help 2014 organisers after he steps down as the country's leader later this year.
"I will always be a football lover and you can always count on my support for all that you need in order to provide the planet with the best World Cup. I am sure Brazil is capable of that," he said.
He added: "Brazilians love a challenge, we move
forward on that basis. You can rest assured that we will present a World Cup as beautiful as the 2010 tournament."
The next major milestone for 2014 World Cup organizers is the preliminary draw in July 2011. Check out this years Soccer Associations Logos. I will keep posting and planning my trip to Brazil 2014.
